After more than 30 years of consulting, I have finally discovered “direct moderation”. It’s a phrase which provides a good description of what’s important to me. I like to give people and groups plenty of space for their development, but it’s equally important to me to develop hypotheses, which seems particularly important to the organisation itself. And I intervene very directly when it comes to making sure that the necessary work is done.
One of my clients recently put it in a nutshell: “Mr. Patak succeeds in being unobtrusively present in a flawless way.” For me it’s more about the impact of workshops on the organisation and less about the immediate experience or the feedback.
As a consultant, I like to switch between different worlds and support profit-based companies just as much as NPOs or public sector organisations. I like it when inspired partnerships develop with my clients and colleagues which last for decades.
